Country size & population quiz
A big outline on the map doesn’t always mean a big population. Compare two places and decide which has the higher number.

How to play Bigger or smaller?
Each question names two countries or territories and tells you what to compare: area or population. One value is shown. Decide whether the other place has a higher or lower value, then check the answer.
- Read the measurement first. Square kilometres describe area; a population figure counts people.
- Choose higher or lower for the second place.
- Compare the revealed values and read the short explanation before continuing.
Area and population tell different stories
A country can cover a large area and have relatively few people, or have a small area and a large population. Canada and Bangladesh are a useful pair to investigate: thinking only about the size of their outlines can lead you in the wrong direction.
Population density is a third measurement: people divided by area. It is useful context, but it is not the same as the total population asked for in a question. Always compare like with like.
Why maps can fool you
A flat map cannot preserve every property of a sphere. On a Mercator map, places farther from the equator appear enlarged relative to equatorial places. An outline’s size on the screen is therefore a clue, rather than a measurement of real area.
Population estimates also change over time. This game uses the source snapshot bundled with Globetto so a question and its answer use the same figures. It is a learning game rather than a live population counter.

The web game contains three fixed sample questions. Replay them to check what you remembered, or try the mixed sampler for twelve questions across all four games. The mobile Challenge pack adds the full pool, regions and difficulty settings. Harder comparison questions use values closer together.
